Brachytherapy Department is very happy today - our best friends are married now! Grzegorz Zwierzchowski, PhD, Head of the Laboratory of Treatment Planning and Dosimetry in Brachytherapy and his choice of the heart - Dorota Nyk, were married on Saturday, in Poznań. We wish all the beautifull and happy days for the end of the life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We inform with great pleasure about passing an exam by our Collegue Dr Magda Kubaszewska, which had place on January 15th in Collegium Stomatologicum, University of Medical Scienses, Poznan. Theme: "Ocena jakości życia u chorych na raka płuca leczonych paliatywnie metodą brachyterapii HDR" ["Estimation of quality of life in patients with lung cancer treated palliatively with HDR brachytherapy"]. Brachytherapy patients treated in Greater Poland Cancer Center in 2008.

In 2008 roku in Greater Poland Cancer Center we treated 1404 patients using different brachytherapy techniques.  There were 978 patients with non-gyneacological tumours and 426 with gyneacological tumours. It's the next year with growth of treated patients. Between 978 patients treated in Brachytherapy Department there were 301 with prostate cancer (HDR-SWIFT) and first 2 patients with permanent implants.

Permanent implants in prostate cancer - first patients in Poland

On 18.12.2008 r. in our Brachytherapy Department for the first time in Poland and Central Europe two prostate cancer patients were treated with permanent implants (I-125). Treatment was performed by the team leaded by Janusz Skowronek, PhD, Ass. Prof. under medical asisstance of Prof. Jan Battermann from University Medical Center of Utrecht, Netherlands. Two physicists assisted - Rien Moerland from Utrecht and Grzegorz Zwierzchowski from GCC Poznań. It's a great step forward to introduce this method in Poland. Form January 2009 this treatment will be offered regularly for our patients.
